Laurie Ekstrand is a Senior Advisor currently working on a project for the Office of Urban Indian Health Programs. A retired Senior Executive at the Government Accountability Office (GAO), she led work as the Director, Health Care, and earlier as Director, Homeland Security and Justice. She started her GAO career as a statistician, and later became Chief Social Scientist for the General Government Division before being selected for the Senior Executive Service. In addition to her GAO work, she developed course work and taught monitoring and evaluation at the World Bank, American University, and the University of Maryland. Post-retirement, she had led projects at NAPA, and has worked as an evaluation consultant for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the National Institute of Corrections (NIC), GAO, and several non-profit organizations. She earned her doctorate in political science and statistics at Florida State University.
