Effective data governance is critical to making both public and non-public data ready and usable for public good. With the explosion of new AI technology, particularly Generative AI (GenAI), we are seeing increasing pressure on data stewards both in and outside of government to ensure that their data can fuel AI applications in socially responsible and useful ways. This panel will explore what it means to make public data, non-public government data, and data from private sources "AI-ready"; how these new efforts can build on years of experience improving data governance; and both the opportunities and the pitfalls of using GenAI to apply data of all kinds for wider use.
Panelists:
Oliver Wise, Chief Data Officer, performing the non-exclusive functions and duties of the Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs
Mary Conway Vaughan, Deputy Director, Analytics, JHU Bloomberg Center for Government Excellence
Joel Gurin, President, Center for Open Data Enterprise
Jonathan Porat, CTO, State of California
