What We Do

Through the experience and expertise of our Fellows and in strategic partnership with all levels of government and sectors, the Academy produces independent research and studies that advance the field of public administration and facilitates the development, adoption, and implementation of solutions to government’s most significant challenges.

Our Programs

The Academy's work grows out of a variety of impactful programs focused on consolidating and sharing knowledge to help public workers do their jobs effectively and efficiently. These programs include the Center for Intergovernmental Partnerships and the Agile Government Center. Each holds monthly events, convenes regularly to solicit and share expert advice and more.

Initiatives

The Academy's initiatives include a variety of Standing Panels and Working Groups made up of active and former public administrators, civil servants, academics, subject matter experts and more. They are focused on some of the most important challenges of government, including climate adaptation and resilience, executive organization management and international relations. We also highlight the work of public servants with our award programs and partnerships.

Research

Our Fellows and staff spend much of their time conducting research for Congressionally-mandated and solicited studies. This practice dates to the early days of the Academy, and our in-depth research has shaped agencies at the local, state and federal level. We also turn our attention to the 12 Grand Challenges in Public Administration, areas of focus and framing designed to guide civil servants toward the most important and impactful work they can do every day.
