Standing Panels and Working Groups

The purpose of the Academy's Standing Panels is to convene thought leaders around six specific areas critical to the success of public administration. The Panels meet regularly to discuss these specific issue areas, learn from experts, and produce thought leadership to advance the field of public administration.

Africa Working Group

The Africa Working Group (AWG) is a sub-committee of the International Affairs Standing Panel at the National Academy of Public Administration in Washington, DC. Established in 2001, the AWG’s mission is to enhance public administration and governance in Africa.

Elections Working Group

The Elections Working Group focuses on issues related to the elections workforce. The EWG's goal is to inspire the Academy's fellows to take active roles in their networks and through their communities to bolster confidence in the administration of elections.

Executive Organization and Management

The Standing Panel on Executive Organization and Management (EOM) is the Academy’s oldest and longest-serving standing panel. The Panel focuses on improving the structure, capacity, management, and performance of public institutions.

Intergovernmental Systems

The Standing Panel on Intergovernmental Systems discusses, researches, analyzes, and takes action to improve the intergovernmental delivery of benefits and services. It also considers challenges and issues related to the U.S. federal system and intergovernmental relations.

International Affairs

The Standing Panel on International Affairs considers a broad range of issues, such as: assisting in the development of democratic institutions in transitional democracies throughout the world; addressing public management challenges in developing countries; examining the management of the U.S. government's international activities; and promoting information sharing on promising practices in public management.

The mission of the Local Government Working Group is to identify critical issues facing local government and use the talents of Academy Fellows to develop solutions, create partnerships, and share ideas to improve governance at the local level.

The Standing Panel on Social Equity in Governance focuses on issues of fairness, justice, and equity in a variety of public contexts, including, but not limited to: education, policing, welfare, housing, and transportation.
