Established in September 2021, in recognition that no significant public problem fits entirely within one government agency or even one level of government, the Center for Intergovernmental Partnerships (Center or CIP) helps identify intergovernmental gaps and serves as a forum for dialogue and problem-solving on those issues across local, state, tribal, territorial, and federal levels of government.
The Center, through convenings, collaboration, and research, will be a hub for solutions to our society's biggest intergovernmental challenges. It will utilize Academy staff, Academy Fellows, and other partners to develop structures and processes for implementing effective policies for resilient, sustainable future governance.
Despite many recent challenges the CIP, along with the Agile Government Center and the Extreme Weather Resilience Hub, have continued and expanded the Academy's work in the state, local, and intergovernmental spaces.

The mission of the Public Health Working Group is to engage the talents and energy of NAPA Fellows, along with practitioners and scholars more broadly, to advance a viable, functioning public health system in the U.S. The concept for this Working Group emerged from informal conversations among NAPA Fellows who reflected on how our nation reeled under the impact of a global pandemic, while disparate responses among the states proved unable to cope with a lethal but little-understood public health threat. Concerns about other public health issues, such as reproductive health and women’s care and treatment, have likewise been rising, making this an opportune time to convene a group in conjunction with NAPA to make a difference on the public health policy front. Engaging, developing, and educating an adequate health care workforce is another critical effort to improving equity and excellence in performance for all groups in society. These issues are central to NAPA’s core principle of developing and maintaining excellence in public service. We invite you to join this emerging effort, now underway with full support from NAPA leadership.
