How Local Governments Talk about What They Do

May 28, 2025 @ 02:00:00 pm - May 28, 2025 @ 03:30:00 pm
Eastern Time (ET)

Co-hosted by:

Intergovernmental Systems Standing Panel
Executive Organization and Management Standing Panel
Local Government Working Group

Join the National Academy of Public Administration on Wednesday, May 28, 2-3:30 p.m. (ET) to learn from local officials how - and when - they communicate about government decision-making, what it is doing, progress made, problems encountered, lessons learned, and planned next steps to improve outcomes, inform priorities, and develop goals and strategies.

Local leaders will discuss how federal and state governments have been helpful in the past and how they have gotten in the way, as well as changes they would like to see in the future.

As federal leaders radically rethink what the federal government should do and how it should do it when funding states and localities, it is time to think more clearly and intentionally about the “why” and “how” of government and intergovernmental practices.

Featured Speakers:

  • Geoff Beckwith, Former Executive Director & CEO, Massachusetts Municipal Association
  • Harry Black, former City Manager of Stockton, CA
  • Lisa Brown, Economic and Urban Development Coordinator, Rock Hill, SC
  • Robert Shea, GovNavigators

Please note that the EOM Standing Panel will not have its previously scheduled meeting on Friday, May 30.
