National Academy of Public Administration Launches “Why Government?”

Post Date: May 05, 2025

The National Academy of Public Administration, at the start of Public Service Recognition Week 2025, has launched “Why Government?” a new hub site designed to help public workers, administrators and people around the country share stories of good government’s impact on their lives and in their communities.

“Why Government? The answer for this question will be different for everyone, but the impact will feel familiar. If we want to rebuild trust and help restore faith in government across communities, we have to start by sharing our own stories." said James-Christian Blockwood, President & CEO, National Academy of Public Administration.

Academy studies have shown an alarming and rapid downward trend in public trust in government. Part of the solution will be helping people put a face on the more than 2 million civil servants around the country, and demonstrating the value good government has on their daily lives.

The “Why Government?” site will host short visual stories from impactful people, public servants, and features a submission portal where the public can submit good government stories of their own.
