Diversity A New Direction

Diversity: A New Direction

In September 2001, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Diversity Management and Equal Employment Opportunity at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) requested that the National Academy of Public Administration (the Academy) review the department’s diversity and equal employment opportunity (EEO) policies, organizational structure, and staffing.

Its purpose was to recommend improvements to VA’s diversity program that would contribute to the attraction and retention of a high quality workforce, supports the department’s strategic mission, and delivers outstanding and cost effective services to its internal and external customers.
