This year, the federal government has advanced two important reforms to improve how agencies recruit and hire. In April, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) launched a set of reforms to the Pathways Programs to make them easier for agencies to utilize and to significantly expand opportunities for early career talent in the federal government. The final rule contains the most significant changes since the introduction of the Pathways Programs—Interns, Recent Graduates, and Presidential Management Fellows—in 2010. Additionally, in August OMB and OPM released a memorandum consolidating guidance, tools, and resources launched in recent years to improve the federal hiring experience for job applicants, managers, and HR professionals.
In the moderated panel, OPM and OMB representatives provided a briefing about these reforms, as well as how employers and other stakeholders support their implementation and connect students with opportunities.
