While the U.S. has been a outlier in the use of formally titled "national plans," in the late 20th century national development planning was otherwise engaged in globally. In 2024, with new drivers including UN Sustainable Development Goals and the need for countries to develop strategies to address 21st century challenges including climate change, national planning continues to evolve.
The International Affairs Panel workshop will bring together scholars/practitioners from South America, Asia, Africa, Australia and the EU to discuss case studies of ongoing national planning for a journal special issue symposium, with the aim of synthesizing a framework for comparative learning on the 21st century use of national plans.
