Mark your calendars for our first meeting in the 2019 calendar year on February 14 from 10 to noon, followed by a networking lunch. The agenda for this meeting features Nick Johnson, Senior Vice President for State Fiscal Policy at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Nick is going to discuss their recently released paper on “Advancing Racial Equity With State Tax Policy.” This paper provides both some historical context as well as prospective recommendations for using tax policy to enhance social equity. Tax policy and economic incentives are probably some of the best tools available to policy-makers to address social inequity and we hope to feature more topics on this issue.
Following Nick’s discussion, we will have a joint meeting of the two workgroups established late last year. For those of you who have volunteered to participate in one or both, thank you. For those of you that have not yet taken advantage of this opportunity, please do so. These groups will help establish our workplan for the rest of the year. As a reminder, the two groups are 1) Defining Social Equity, and 2) Social Equity and Gender.
I’m very excited about the impact we can have on helping to achieve more a equitable social society and look forward to working with you in the coming year. Please feel free to reach out to me directly with any comments or suggestions.
Best regards,
Gary Glickman
