Reimagining Social Equity: Centering on Intersectionality and Social Class

October 14, 2022 @ 10:00:00 am - October 14, 2022 @ 12:00:00 pm
Eastern Time (ET)

Beginning in 2019, growing and maturing through the pandemic years, scholars associated with the Consortium of Race and Gender Scholars (CORGES) have advanced a new perspective on social equity in public administration scholarship. This new perspective calls for developing a more accurate understanding of social hierarchy and an embrace of intersectionality. This Social Equity Standing Panel moderated by Academy Fellows Sanjay Pandey and Kathryn Newcomer will highlight the contributions of three scholars who have provided intellectual leadership to the “CORGES way” of thinking about social equity. Domonic Bearfield, PhD, Professor at The George Washington University, will highlight the importance of staying the course with intersectionality perspective for advancing social equity. Rachel Breslin, PhD, Chief of Military Gender Relations Research, Office of People Analytics at the US Department of Defense, will discuss intersectionality perspective in the context of different feminist theories and the value of these ideas to public organizations. Jeremy Hall, Academy Fellow and Editor-in-Chief of Public Administration Review, will give an overarching perspective on how this new way of thinking has come about and how it may shape future thinking on social equity.
