Background:
The Academy is supporting the District of Columbia's Department of Human Services (DHS) by facilitating a structured TANF Policy Working Group to help the agency navigate major program changes under the DC Public Assistance Amendment Act of 2025. The activity focuses on developing observations on benefit step‑downs, sanctions, hardship extensions, and employment pathways. The engagement included data-informed analysis, stakeholder listening sessions, and facilitated deliberation among government employees, TEP providers, advocates, Councilmembers, and customers. A final report will feature actionable, community‑grounded input to guide DHS's implementation of the new rules while protecting families, improving transparency, and centering practical steps to support residents' pathways to economic independence.
Contact: Please direct any questions about the engagement to Nancy Augustine, Miles Murphy, or Brenna Isman.
