Biography

Maria Roat has had an illustrious career in the field of information technology and cybersecurity, marked by a series of significant roles across various federal agencies. From 2020 to 2022, Maria served as the Deputy Federal Chief Information Officer at the Office of the Federal Chief Information Officer (OFCIO) within the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Prior to this, she was the Chief Information Officer at the Small Business Administration (SBA) from 2016 to 2020, where she played a pivotal role in modernizing the agency's IT infrastructure. Between 2014 and 2016, Maria held the position of Chief Technology Officer at the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), where she was instrumental in advancing the department's technological capabilities. Before her tenure at USDOT, she served as the FedRAMP Director at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the General Services Administration (GSA) from 2013 to 2014, overseeing the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program. Maria's career also includes significant leadership roles at DHS. From 2011 to 2013, she was the Deputy Chief Information Officer at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Prior to that, she served as the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) at DHS Headquarters from 2008 to 2011, and as the Chief of Staff and Chief Information Security Officer in the OCIO at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) from 2006 to 2008. Her extensive experience in the federal sector is complemented by her distinguished military service. Maria served as a Master Chief in the U.S. Navy from 1981 to 2007, demonstrating her long-standing commitment to public service. Additionally, she was the Deputy Director of Technology Development for the Transportation Threat Assessment and Credentialing (TTAC) program at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) from 2004 to 2006.
