Innovation in public service is not merely an abstract concept. Rather, it shapes communities, strengthens democracy, and delivers results. Innovation helps government adapt to new, modern challenges and address administrative and bureaucratic systems that no longer reflect current needs.
This Critical Conversation, the first featured under the Celebrating the American Public Service (CAPS) banner, brought together leaders from across the CAPS ecosystem to explore how innovation is being translated into real-world impact. Moderated by Academy Fellow Dr. Marlon I. Brown, the conversation featured Local Government 250 Champion, Dr. Aneisha Daniel, 50 States-50 Breakthroughs winner, Dr. Jessica Schleider, and Bridge Alliance Fellow, Dr. Shaniqua Williams, each representing different pathways public servants are advancing progress.
These leaders reflected on what it takes to move bold ideas from vision to execution; how innovation shows up differently across levels of government and civic leadership; and why urgency, trust, and service to the public remain at the heart of meaningful change. CAPS is not just a set of initiatives, but a growing community of public servants united by a shared commitment to strengthening American democracy through innovation, leadership, and service.
