Learning from wildfires: Do institutions constrain our ability to manage risk reduction and recovery?

Wednesday, June 25 at 4:30 PM (Pacific Time), 7:30 PM (U.S East Coast)

While emergency services have improved the way they deal with extreme events and reduced loss of life, challenges remain in how we reduce risks and prepare on one hand, and recover from events on the other. Is our vision and agenda for risk and recovery limited by the institutions that manage these events? This roundtable will highlight different approaches and the extent to which our institutional silos constrain options and opportunities for risk reduction and recovery. It will do this through an exploration of recent wildfire events in the U.S. and Australia.

The Monash Green Lab roundtables, held in collaboration with the National Academy of Public Administration's (NAPA) International Affairs Standing Panel, will bring together leading international and Australian thinkers from government, business, and community sectors. The conversation will feature Dr. Matthew Auer, Dean of the School of Public and International Affairs and Arch Professor of Public and International Affairs, and Dr. Louise Comfort, Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public and International Affairs.
