WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Academy of Public Administration today officially announced Celebrating the American Public Servant, a yearlong campaign to recognize the dedication of the people who connect citizens to their government. It will be an important part of the Academy’s contributions to America’s 250th.
Celebrating the American Public Servant will focus on the individuals who make government work through three interconnected efforts: a National Awards Gala recognizing excellence in service, a research initiative exploring the present and future of public service, and a nationwide “250 Champions of Public Service” series highlighting extraordinary leaders.
“Good government depends on a strong public service,” said James-Christian Blockwood, President and CEO of the National Academy of Public Administration. “Through Celebrating the American Public Servant, we are honoring those who choose service over self. This is an especially important time as our nation reflects on its past and next 250 years. While they are often taken for granted, this effort seeks to recognize the value and impact public servants have on communities across the country.”
The campaign will use innovative storytelling, research, and events to amplify the impact of public service and renew appreciation for those working in and with government at all levels as part of the broader America 250 celebration.
Organizations and individuals interested in partnering or co-sponsoring the initiative can download the partnership packet here, visit the Celebrating the American Public Servant website at www.napawash.org/caps, or contact Tony Spearman-Leach, Senior Director of Institutional Advancement, at tspearman-leach@napawash.org.
