Senior Research Associate
Ms. Gillian Townsend joined the Academy in November 2019. She has served on several Academy studies, including work with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Park Service, the Department of Commerce Office of Inspector General, and the National Marine Sanctuary System. Ms. Townsend currently serves on a study assisting the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General in developing a five-year strategic plan. She has experience in assisting agencies with organizational assessments and strategic plan development.
Prior to joining the Academy, Ms. Townsend had various internships and volunteered with several organizations with a focus on community engagement. She graduated from the College of William & Mary in the Spring of 2019 with a BA in Government and a minor in History and was recognized for her capstone thesis entitled: How the Rise of Genetic Ancestry Testing has impacted the Creation and Perception of Racial Identity.
