William Dunn is Professor Emeritus, Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh. He was the Founding Director of the Center for Public Policy and Management (CPPM) in Southeastern Europe and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. His awards include the Chancellor’s Spotlight Award for Excellence in Mentoring, the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring, the Donald T. Campbell Award for Methodological Innovation, and the Douglas McGregor Award for research on values and planned change. His teaching and research agendas include public policy analysis, philosophy and sociology of the policy sciences, research design and methods, and the use of scientific evidence by policymakers. He is author of books, articles, and papers in areas of the methodology of policy analysis and evaluation, the uses of policy argument, research design and methods, and the philosophy of the applied social sciences. He has written policy papers and reports for agencies at the national, state and local levels. His most well-known publications include Public Policy Analysis: An Integrated Approach, 7th ed., 2022, which is the most widely cited book on the subject with translations into six languages, and Pragmatism and the Origins of the Policy Sciences, Cambridge 2019.
